On March 13, 2020, following the cancellation of a theatre project, I started The Social Distancing Festival. This site was created to showcase the work of artists around the world who had been impacted by COVID-19.
Word of this project travelled quickly, resulting in hundreds of submissions and 250,000 unique visitors within the first week.
The site garnered international attention, with media coverage that includes The New York Times, BBC, CBC, Daily Mail, Globe and Mail, CNN, Intermission Magazine, Toronto Life, Radio Berlin, Tasmania Morning Radio, PRI - The World, Time Out Dubai, The Hindu, Reasons to Be Cheerful, and DutchWeekly, among others.
The site has hosted a Live Stream Directory, Featured content, and hundreds of postings from artists who have submitted from around the world. I have also engaged in partnerships that have seen the creation of new work, including the Long Distance Art Series, Cosmocabaret, and Connecting Perspectives. The latter was produced in partnership with the Consulate General for Canada in New York and all 13 Diplomatic Missions for Canada across the United States.
